Promoting good sportsmanship at all Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA) events continues to be a priority for Kansas and its member schools. The inaugural League Sportsmanship award allowed each league/conference to identify a KSHSAA Basketball Sportsmanship League/Conference Champion. A total of 36 Kansas high schools were eligible to receive recognition by KSHSAA for outstanding sportsmanship during the 2024-2025 Basketball season with one from each league/conference selected by their peers.
Historically, the KSHSAA has provided the opportunity for state basketball tournament school teams to earn Sportsmanship Awards. State tourney schools were rated by judges assigned to respective tournaments who evaluated the teams (players and coaches), spirit squads, pep bands, and crowds, all based upon an established rating rubric. The Executive Board approved this new program which allows all member high schools the opportunity to be recognized for their efforts to promote and demonstrate good sportsmanship during the basketball season.
Following the conclusion of this recent basketball season, the member schools voted to identify their respective League Sportsmanship Champion. School leaders considered the sportsmanship demonstrated by the girls’ and boys’ teams (players and coaches), spirit squads, pep bands, and crowds based upon the school performance throughout the basketball season. We are proud to announce that Centre was selected as the winner from the Wheat State League this year and will be awarded a trophy for their efforts. Congratulations to our players, students, and fans.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We want to let you know about the measles outbreak happening in Kansas. Right now, there
are no cases of measles in our school. We are sharing this information to keep you informed
and let you know we are ready to respond if needed.
What is measles?
Measles is a virus that spreads easily when people talk, cough, or sneeze. Measles spreads
easily in places like schools.
Symptoms: Measles usually starts with a high fever, cough, runny nose, and red or watery
eyes. A rash appears a few days later. It usually starts on the face and spreads to the rest of
the body.
Spreading measles: People with measles can spread the virus to others from four days
before the rash starts to four days after the rash appears. The measles virus is highly
contagious and can stay in the air for two hours after an infected person leaves the space.
Most people who are not protected will get measles if they are around someone who has it.
Vaccine: The best protection against measles is two doses of the MMR vaccine. Children
who get two doses are protected. However, a small number (according to CDC about three
out of 100) may still get measles if they are near someone who is sick.
What happens if measles is found at Centre?
We will work with the Marion County Health Department to tell families if their child may
have been exposed.
If your child is not fully vaccinated and is exposed, they will need to be out of school for 21
days from their last exposure to measles, as required by public health regulations 1 .
The health department will help families know when their child can return to school safely.
Where can I find more information about measles? Visit the Kansas Department of Health and Environment’s measles webpage:
www.kdhe.ks.gov/measles. You can find answers to common questions and learn how to
check your child’s vaccine record. Contact the Marion County Health Department at 620-382-2550 if you have questions about measles.
If your child is not vaccinated, the health department or your healthcare provider can talk
with you about getting the vaccine. This will help protect your child from measles and enable them to stay in school if they are exposed. If your child is sick or you are worried about their health, please call your health care provider.
We know this news may be concerning. Our goal is to keep everyone safe by sharing important information as soon as possible.
Sincerely,
Dr. Larry D Geist, Superintendent
